Experienced conflict resolution professional joins JAMS Pathways as facilitator and trainer
KEY POINTS
Chicago – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce that Susan Yates has joined its JAMS Pathways panel. Ms. Yates joins JAMS Pathways with more than four decades of experience as a mediator, trainer and designer of dispute resolution systems.
From 1997 to 2024, Ms. Yates helped build and lead the nationally recognized Resolution Systems Institute. As its longtime executive director, she was responsible for planning and implementing programs to achieve the organization’s goal of improving access to justice by assisting courts in making more effective use of ADR. Additionally, she worked extensively in dispute system design, mediation ethics and safety in mediation.
Ms. Yates will serve as a facilitator and trainer, prioritizing effective communication to resolve workplace conflict, with a focus on nonprofits, especially boards of directors; mission-based strategic planning; and relationships among stakeholders, such as board, staff, volunteers, funders and service recipients. She is based in the JAMS Chicago Resolution Center, but is available to conduct sessions in person, as well as virtually, for clients across the country and internationally.
“Throughout her career, Ms. Yates has worn many hats as a leader, program designer, mediator and mentor. Those experiences have shaped her ability to navigate and address conflict in a meaningful way, channeling her core values of respect, flexibility and optimism. We are thrilled to welcome her to our JAMS Pathways team.”
Kimberly Taylor, JAMS CEO and president
Ms. Yates has maintained an active presence in the ADR community throughout her career. She is a sought-after trainer, having trained hundreds of lawyers, judges and others to mediate. She has written mediation training manuals, designed competency-based training and evaluation instruments, and created specialty trainings for ADR in areas such as foreclosure. She has been an adjunct faculty member in the schools of law at DePaul University, Loyola University and Northwestern University.
“My goal is to use my conflict resolution skills to help develop workplaces in which communication is clear, people are respected and innovation is valued. I look forward to joining JAMS Pathways and having the opportunity to meet people and organizations where they are, and devising creative solutions to help get them where they need to go,” said Ms. Yates.
Ms. Yates earned her B.S. from Cornell University.
